Arrival in Paro

Arrive at Paro International Airport, meet your trekking guide, and transfer to your hotel. A relaxed evening to rest and adjust before the trek begins. Overnight: Hotel in Paro.

Paro — Trek Preparation

A day to finalize permits and gear with your trekking crew, with an easy acclimatization walk around Paro town or a visit to the National Museum. Full briefing on the route, altitude and safety ahead of departure. Overnight: Hotel in Paro.

Drive to Shana & Trek to Shana Camp

Drive from Paro to Shana, the trailhead, then begin trekking along the Paro Chhu through pine and fir forest to the first camp. Trek time: about 5 hours.

Shana → Soi Thangthangka

A long day's trek along the river valley, climbing gradually through forest with occasional views of Jomolhari ahead on clear days. Trek time: about 6–7 hours.

Soi Thangthangka → Jangothang (Jomolhari Base Camp)

Trek above the tree line into open alpine terrain, arriving at Jangothang with Mount Jomolhari (7,326 m) rising directly ahead. Trek time: about 5 hours.

Acclimatization Day at Jangothang

A rest day for acclimatization, with an optional side hike to the Tshophu Lakes for closer views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drakey. Keep an eye out for blue sheep grazing the surrounding slopes.

Jangothang → Lingshi via Nyile La Pass

The trek's high point: cross Nyile La Pass at over 4,800 meters before descending into the remote Lingshi valley, with views back toward Jomolhari and Tserim Kang. Trek time: about 6–7 hours.

Lingshi → Shodu

Descend through yak-herding pastures and past scattered herder settlements, following the Thimphu Chhu downstream. Trek time: about 6 hours.

Shodu → Barshong

Continue downstream through rhododendron and mixed forest, with a steady climb to the ruined Barshong Dzong before making camp. Trek time: about 5–6 hours.

Barshong → Dolam Kencho

A quieter trekking day through dense forest, descending steadily alongside the river toward the trek's final stretch. Trek time: about 5 hours.

Trek End at Dodena → Thimphu

A final descent to the road-head at Dodena, where your vehicle meets the trekking crew for the drive into Thimphu. Check into your hotel and enjoy a well-earned hot-stone bath in the evening. Overnight: Hotel in Thimphu.

Thimphu → Paro

Drive back to Paro and transfer to Paro International Airport for departure.
